Weekly Community Gathering

What do weekly rhythms of Community look like?

Historically Judaism and Christianity have often practiced weekly gatherings on Saturdays or Sundays. Not that those days are inherently special, but they are predictable and many work rhythms are established around those days off. Whenever you gather we believe that it is essential for the journey of Discipleship that you are gathering weekly with other believers to center your life around the ways of Jesus. Here are some ideas to consider as you implement this practice:

Jesus: Amidst all our diversity and complexity we gather around the central person of Christ. The vision, the plan, and the strategy are to be with, become like, and do what Jesus did. He is Lord. He is the vision.

Food: At a close second for tips is food, Jesus seemed to center everything on food. There is a lot that could be said here about the why of food, but for now, let’s suffice it to say “breaking bread” was the central commanded practice Jesus gave his disciples.

Small: While large group events and gatherings are not bad, we think the essential practice should involve a smaller group of people. This way you will actually have the capacity to form real relational attachments and get into the depths of each other’s lives.

Beyond this, we have created a three-part leadership pathway to help guide people into thinking about the church as a network of smaller communities. The specifics for any given community and stage of development may vary and that’s why healthy leadership is needed to form any lasting community!
